Bank Holiday fun and frolics

Our antics at Gwdihw and Cardiff Arts Institute seemed to go down a storm. The late evening gig was comfortably our longest yet, and we had the audience dancing along to some of our faves.

Here are some photos, and more are available on our flickr page.

Uke Nights Busking photos

Our busking foray raised £213 over a period of under two hours. This might actually be the time to give up the day job. All these proceeds will be going to Cancer Research UK. Here are some photos of the event:

Gig songbook available

This is not so much a new songbook as a rehashing of existing songs to make them more playable. This text will be used as the basis of our rehearsals in August.

Wukulele Festival

Wukulele Festival posterThe recent Ukulele Festival of Great Britain was tremendous entertainment, and it’s good to know we don’t have to wait a full year for another opportunity to see more great ukulele players in action. Wukulele Festival takes place on 8–10 October 2010 in Worthing on the south coast of England. There are already some interesting performers lined up for the event, including Bob Brozman. Workshops are apparently already filling up. Read more

Ukulele Jambalele at the Gwdihw

Ukulele players don’t so much ‘rock up’ to a gig as roll up and gaze around for the best place to park a bike … and so it was on Monday 12 July as we rolled into the coolest bar in Cardiff. The Gwdihw is becoming known for its retro-décor and for its unconventional approach to events (as anyone who has ever received a Facebook invitation to anything scheduled at the Owl will know) and this Monday night was no exception to the ‘let’s suck it and see’ Gwdihw style as the Ukuleles of Cardiff, Penarth, and Porthcawl launched into a concoction of crooning.

Radio Cardiff appearance

We performed and talked about things uke on Jeremy Rees’s Saturday breakfast programme on 5 June 2010. The file is too big to stream through the website, but you can now download it to listen here:

Photos from the Senedd

Here are the rather sophisticated photos taken of the Ukulele Nights as we bashed out some tunes at the Senedd.
